FDA OKs Escalon Medical's Sonomed Escalon VuPad - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Escalon Medical Corp.(ESMC) Friday said it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration or FDA 510(k) clearance for its Sonomed Escalon VuPad, a new tablet-based ultrasound imaging system.

The VuPad uses Sonomed Escalon's superior UBM and newly enhanced B-scan image quality with an ultra-high-resolution screen that has 25% larger viewing area than other portable ultrasound devices and delivers exceptional image quality in a wide range of ophthalmic applications. The VuPad offers A-scan, B-scan, and/or UBM modalities in a sleek, tablet-like package.

The company expects immediate shipments of VuPad systems and to receive CE marking and clearance in the coming months.

The device, with an intuitively designed touch screen controls, was previewed at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, in November 2013 and recently garnered additional attention at the 2014 World Ophthalmic Congress in Tokyo.
