Faiveley Participates in the Latest TGV World Speed Record
Regulatory News:
Faiveley (Paris:LEY) is proud to add yet another world speed record
to its’ collection. After having invented the
pantograph in 1923, Faiveley’s pantograph was
used to set the first world speed record at 331km/h in 1955, and then at
515.3km/h in 1990. This latest record set at 574.7km/h on the 3rd
April was set once again using a Faiveley pantograph. Current collection was one of the most difficult aspects to master
for the TGV speed record attempt - baptized the V150 program - which
took place on the 3rd April. The difficulty at high speeds is to
maintain constant pantograph/catenary contact despite large variations
in conducting line height and the aerodynamic turbulence generated by
the train profile. Faiveley’s pantograph was chosen for this
world record due to its vast experience in high-speed current
collection. The latest version of the CX electronically-controlled
pantograph, developed by Faiveley Transport in the mid 1990's, was used
to set the record. "Our pantograph is still the only one in operation on the market that
uses this electronically-controlled principle" states Jean DELIGNIERES,
current collection product manager at FAIVELEY Transport. In setting this new world speed record, FAIVELEY Transport has been
able to prove its technological advances in terms of very high-speed
technology expertise, not only in the field of current collection but
also in braking: the train-set was equipped with a FAIVELEY Transport
braking system. Several other Faiveley products and systems where also used in this
new world speed record including its SIL4 Triple Odometry system,
its Doppler Radar, the Wiegand effect wheel speed sensor,
the ATESS system, and anti-skid systems. FAIVELEY, A WORLD LEADER IN THE RAILWAY INDUSTRY About the Faiveley Group
The Faiveley Group is one of the world’s
leading suppliers of railway systems and services, with six product
lines: air conditioning, electro-mechanics, on-board electronics,
braking systems, couplers and customer services.
On a strong international market, Faiveley works closely with train
operators and car-builders, and uses it commercial and industrial
