There are cases in which disc drives read out wrong data from DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs but don't report a read error. If these disc drives are used to copy or rip discs, they may get a result containing wrong data. ExactRead helps resolve such a problem.

ExactRead is the technology of verifying and correcting read error made by a disc drive. During copy or ripping process, DVDFab will first read the disc data through a disc drive, and then decrypt the disc data, and then verify whether the data conforms to DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Blu-ray specifications. If DVDFab finds there is wrong data, namely the read error made by the disc drive, it will begin the correction process. DVDFab will go back to reread the error part sector by sector to make sure it reads the right data. But if it fails to correct the read error, a "Read Error" window will pop up, leaving users to deal with this error.

The "Read Error" is possibly caused by the following. First, the disc is scratched or has a film of dust on it. In this case, the error may be fixed by cleaning the disc. Second, the data on the disc is originally wrong. There is no way to fix the disc but to return it to the store where it was purchased. Third, the drive you use is not good enough to read all the data on a disc. In this case, the drive should be replaced with a new powerful one.

Based on its collected (via cloud) information on the read error cases of different drives, DVDFab also mentions the drives on its recommendation list and the drives it doesn't really recommend. Additionally, the company also says it will periodically update that list as it collects more information.
