Engenio Demonstrates 2882 and 6998 Arrays With QLogic SANsurfer Express(TM) at QLogic Worldwide Partner Conference
LAS VEGAS (QLogic Worldwide Partner Conference), May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Engenio Information Technologies, Inc. today announced a demonstration of its Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Virtual Disk Service (VDS) provider including QLogic SANsurfer Express, at the QLogic Worldwide Partner Conference. QLogic's SANsurfer Express enables Engenio 2882 and 6998 controller-based arrays to be managed within applications that support VDS.
SANsurfer Express provides a graphical user interface for point-and-click volume management and manages all devices in the SAN. The Engenio VDS enabled storage combined with QLogic SANsurfer Express reduces costs and simplifies storage management for small and medium businesses (SMBs) deploying Windows Server 2003.
"Leveraging the Microsoft VDS initiative, QLogic SANsurfer Express simplifies the installation and management of data in a highly reliable, scalable SAN environment," said Julie Ryan, Engenio Manager of Alliances. "SANs for small and medium businesses provide the reliability, performance, and scalability to meet today and tomorrow's data requirements. SMBs need to simplify installation and management of SANs, which is addressed through our VDS solution."
Engenio is a global provider of innovative and highly scalable modular storage systems for the open enterprise. The company recently announced the storage industry's first 4-Gigabit per second (4Gb/s) Fibre Channel storage system for the enterprise. The new system provides customers with twice the per-port bandwidth, twice the connectivity and up to eight times the cache of Engenio's current 2Gb/s Fibre Channel systems. Its multiple cache offerings, which scale from 4 GB up to 16 GB, enable customers to optimize their configuration to best fit their application requirements.
The 2882 controller combines industry-standard components with robust Engenio firmware to deliver enterprise-class functionality and exceptional performance value. The 2882 storage system has a number of advanced features including 2Gb/s host interfaces, dual 2Gb/s drive channels, 1 GB of cache and outstanding MB/s and IOPS performance. The cost-effective 2882 controller delivers the features and performance required from energetic workgroup and departmental environments.
"Engenio's participation adds credibility to this program because of their large footprint and innovation in storage reliability and scalability," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. "Engenio arrays, sold through companies such as IBM, StorageTek, and Sun, combined with QLogic SANsurfer Express and the Windows Server 2003 operating system make life much easier for experienced or first-time SAN users. This solution makes SANs easier to use and more cost-effective to implement."
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Virtual Disk Service
Virtual Disk Service simplifies disk management by enabling the administrator to use a standardized storage management user interface, accessible from any Windows console, to manage both multi-vendor storage arrays and directly attached storage. It also enables the administrator to obtain an aggregated view of all storage, and facilitates several solutions, such as extending disk space without administrator intervention. VDS provides the administrator with the ability to decide how to access the standardized interface through a command line interface (CLI) or third party graphical user interface (GUI).
"The combination of Windows Server 2003 with VDS and QLogic SANsurfer Express is a great application for customers with SMB SANs," said Claude Lorenson, Senior Product Manager, storage technologies at Microsoft Corporation. "SMB customers can now take advantage of all the benefits of SANs, with complicated installations now a thing of the past. By supporting SANsurfer Express and Windows Server 2003 with VDS, Engenio is able to deliver point-and-click SANs for SMBs and first time SAN users."
QLogic SANsurfer Express
QLogic SANsurfer Express complements the Microsoft Windows VDS Command Line Interface (CLI) with a graphical user interface (GUI) for point-and-click discovery of servers and multi-vendor disk arrays, configuration of RAID levels, and configuration of logical volumes.
