    AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 2005--

Patented EDGE Transmit Architecture Preserves Best-in-Class GSM/GPRS Performance While Exceeding EDGE Performance Requirements

Silicon Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq:SLAB) today announced that Enfora, a leading wireless technology provider for mobile products, has adopted Silicon Laboratories' Aero(R) EDGE Radio for GSM/GPRS/EDGE personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smart phones targeted for US operators. Enfora selected the Aero EDGE Radio to guarantee the highest performance for GSM/GPRS/EDGE modules with a simple and easy-to-use radio design.
The Aero EDGE Radio incorporates a proven digital low-IF receiver and a transmitter that uniquely combines the high performance of an offset phase-locked loop (OPLL) transmitter and a CDMA-like linear transmitter. Unlike competing architectures, this innovative, patented, transmitter approach provides performance margin to the EDGE radio specifications while preserving the best-in-class GSM/GPRS performance. Silicon Laboratories' Aero EDGE radio also significantly lowers the overall bill of materials reducing the required board space and component count when compared to competing solutions.
"Our customers demand EDGE technology with the highest GSM/GPRS performance and reliability in the field," said Scott Constien, Chief Technical Officer of Enfora. "Silicon Laboratories' Aero EDGE Radio offers an ideal radio platform that guarantees the highest radio performance based on proven technology."
"The Aero EDGE Radio's patented transmitter architecture uniquely positions Silicon Laboratories to address the requirements of handset makers and service providers for EDGE phones," said Ed Healy, vice president of Silicon Laboratories. "Our RF expertise enables us to simplify customers' migration to EDGE, helping them to meet service providers' requirements for EDGE handsets that deliver on consumer expectations in key metrics like battery life."
The Aero EDGE Radio is based on Silicon Laboratories' Aero II transceiver, the industry's most integrated single-chip RF transceiver. The Aero II transceiver integrates all sensitive components including RF and TX voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), VCO tuning components, loop filters and clock coupling capacitors. In addition, the Aero II transceiver includes a proven digitally-controlled crystal oscillator (DCXO) for use with a standard 26 MHz crystal and a software-programmable universal baseband interface that supports leading GSM/GPRS/EDGE basebands.
The Aero EDGE Radio is qualified for use with power amplifiers (PAs) and other components sourced from multiple vendors, offering customers a high degree of flexibility in procurement and supply
