Emily Yoffe Becomes The New Voice Behind Slate's 'Dear Prudence'
ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Author and journalist Emily Yoffe has been named the new personality behind Dear Prudence, Slate's popular, long-running advice column. As "Prudence," she will counsel on love, work, relationships and family, offering wise, heartfelt and hilarious advice.
Her first column as Dear Prudence will debut February 9, 2006.
She will continue writing Slate's Human Guinea Pig column, in which she does things normal people are curious about, but too normal to do. The column has led her to take a vow of silence, work as a street performer, compete in a matzoh ball eating contest, and to enter and win the Mrs. Washington D.C. pageant.
"Emily's excellent writing ability, paired with her sense of humor and empathy, makes her a perfect fit for 'Prudence'," said Jacob Weisberg, editor of Slate, "I am thrilled that she is expanding her involvement at Slate."
Yoffe's work has appeared in many publications, including Esquire, the Los Angeles Times, The New Republic, The New York Times, O the Oprah Magazine, and The Washington Post.
In addition to her journalism experience, Yoffe is the author of the 2005 book, What the Dog Did: Tales from a Formerly Reluctant Dog Owner, an account of life with her bra-eating beagle, Sasha. O Magazine called the book, "laugh out loud funny," and the Chicago Tribune wrote, "Yoffe has long been one of the little known treasures of American journalism - a comic virtuoso who is willing to endure any indignity if it will leave the reader weeping with laughter."
Yoffe was a senior editor at Texas Monthly and a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University She is a graduate of Wellesley College and lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland with her husband and their 10 year-old daughter.
Yoffe will appear on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report on Wednesday, February 1, to discuss some of odd things she's done as the Human Guinea Pig. The programs airs at 11:30 pm EST.
