Electronic Arts Supports International Game Summit with Local Roots
Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS), welcomes industry heavy hitters from
around the world as title sponsor of the Vancouver International Game
Summit (VIGS), to be held in Vancouver May 20-22, 2008.
The Summit, now in its second year, brings together studio executives,
game designers, programmers, artists, students and educators for a
three-day meeting-of-the-minds on the state of the global gaming
industry. With world-class speakers, presentations from legendary
designers and a variety of educational, networking and business
opportunities, the Vancouver International Game Summit has become a
signature event in what is now a global $30+ billion Dollar industry.
"Vancouver is a hotbed of world-class game
development studios and home to many of the world’s
best and brightest gaming professionals,” said
Rory Armes, Senior VP and Group General Manager for Electronic Arts. "The
Game Summit is an indicator of Vancouver’s
increasing importance in the international gaming industry. As both a
local company and an international industry leader, EA is excited to
support this event and proud to help it become bigger and better than
before.”
The inaugural Game Summit, held in May 2007, was attended by more than
450 people. This year’s Summit is expected to
attract more than 1,000 participants from as far and wide as China,
Australia, and Germany. Among those speaking at this year’s
event include legendary video game director and Naughty Dog co-founder,
Jason Rubin, Shane Kim, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Game Studio,
and Athomas Goldberg, Worldwide Product Manager for Animation,
Electronic Arts.
"We are thrilled to have Electronic Arts as
our title sponsor again this year, and by the caliber of all our
presenters, sponsors and partners that have come on board for this year’s
International Game Summit,” said Howard
Donaldson, Summit co-chair and vice-president of Disney Interactive
Studios. "Vancouver is a world-class city and
we are producing some of the world’s best
video games. It’s only fitting that we host a
first-rate industry event.” Conference
organizer Greg Spievak of Reboot Communications concurs, adding, "Our
goal with this event is to establish Vancouver as the destination for
developers, entrepreneurs, publishers, and venture capitalists in the
electronic entertainment market.”
The Vancouver International Game Summit is proud to be partnering with
New Media BC as part of Vancouver’s Digital
Week 2008, which also features VIDFEST, Convergence 2008 and the PopVox
Awards.
