E&S Awarded $2.3M Order for CCTT Program Upgrade
Business Editors/High-Tech Editors
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 2005--Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. (E&S(R)) (Nasdaq: ESCC) announced today that it has been awarded a $2.3M follow-on order by the U.S. Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO-STRI) to update the visual systems for its Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT) Program. E&S will upgrade the FY05 EPX(TM)-50 hardware to PCI Express for more than 250 systems to be fielded in 2005, and will also upgrade the Environment Processor software with military extensions (EPX) for all fielded and future CCTT systems.
"This award represents a significant milestone for E&S," said Nick Gibbs, E&S Simulation Systems general manager. "PEO-STRI's continued selection of E&S visual systems to complete the CCTT program's fielding validates the quality and reliability of our products. We are proud that we have provided a visual system technology path that protects the Army's investment in databases, hardware, and software over the life of the program, and we are very pleased to be a sustaining partner."
The CCTT visual upgrade program was awarded through PEO-STRI's Omnibus contract in January 2004. E&S' EPX-50 image generator was selected for the original contract after a rigorous competitive evaluation of several PC-based solutions. The CCTT program has fielded nearly 450 simulators to provide tactical training for combined-arms battlefield situations for heavy forces (heavy armor, fighting vehicles and cavalry units).
About EPX
Evans & Sutherland's EPX software is designed to deliver flexibility, responsiveness and performance for the most demanding military training requirements. EPX runs on hardware with a full range of prices and capabilities, allowing customers to select the right hardware platform for their specific training missions. The unique, layered architecture of the software enhances reliability and allows rapid database creation and update from source materials. Since EPX databases can be delivered as source data, the same data can be used in multiple applications and updated incrementally as new source materials become available. EPX offers ESIG(R) and CIGI host compatibility, which makes it easier to upgrade existing simulators to the new visual system. In addition, all EPX products are equipped with a 3D whole-earth terrain model and delivered with three high-resolution insets to allow training to begin immediately.
