Drexel University Freshman Receives Scholarship from Rohm and Haas's Minority Scholars Program

Omasan Wyse, a sophomore chemical engineering major at Drexel University, is this year’s recipient of the $10,000 award through Rohm and Haas Minority Scholars at Drexel University program.

The award is provided to one chemical or mechanical engineering student each year that exhibits superior academic achievement. Wyse, a native of Lagos, Nigeria, is well- rounded in striving for academic success and preparing for life after graduation. He has served as secretary for the Oil and Gas Club at Whitesands School in Nigeria and is the founder and coordinator of a seven-man music band that helped raise funds for breast cancer treatment and increase awareness of HIV/AIDS awareness in Africa.

The Rohm and Haas Minority Scholars Program at Drexel University launched in 2003, recognizes potential and rewards the achievements of minority students. Through their partnership, Rohm and Haas and Drexel University work to encourage and increase the number of minority students who enter the fields of chemical or mechanical engineering. In addition to the $10,000 award, which is spread throughout the balance of the selected student’s term, Rohm and Haas provides the student with an opportunity to work as a co-op at one of Rohm and Haas’s locations as well as an employee mentor to assist in furthering their goals.
