Canada's legalization of marijuana for recreational use, legalization of recreational and medicinal marijuana in a number of U.S states, and FDA approval of the first cannabis-based medication, Epidiolex, to treat rare, severe forms of epilepsy have galvanized interests and investments in this sector.

Cannabis has a very old history, dating back around 12,000 years. This herb is known by various names like Marijuana, Pot, Weed, Grass, 420, Dope, Herb, Shunk and Ashes, to name a few.

In the United States, 10 states have legalized recreational marijuana, 32 states and Washington DC have legalized marijuana for medical use, and 13 states have decriminalized, but not legalized, marijuana.

According to reports, recreational cannabis could be legalized in Mexico in October of this year, becoming the third country to do so after Canada in 2018 and Uruguay in 2017.
