Cypress PSoC Mixed Signal Array Selected by LSI Logic for Software Development Kit; Kit Speeds Design of Next-Generation, Enterprise-Class Storage Products

    Business Editors/High-Tech Editors

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 2005--Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) today announced that LSI Logic is offering a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) software development kit (SDK) based on Cypress's award-winning Programmable System-on-Chip(TM) (PSoC(TM)) mixed-signal array devices and programming software.
The SAS SDK will assist customers with their implementation of an external enclosure management processor, which can be used in conjunction with LSI Logic's family of Serial Attached SCSI expanders. The SDK contains an example PSoC project that demonstrates how to interface a Storage Enclosure Processor (SEP) with the LSISASx12 STP-accessible Enclosure Management Bridge (EMB). LSI Logic is recognized as the industry leader in SAS technology solutions, having already secured design wins at five of the top 6 worldwide server OEMs. LSI Logic is the only company providing a complete family of SAS products, including controller ICs, expanders, Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) and RAID storage adapters.
Cypress's PSoC mixed-signal arrays are programmable SOCs that integrate a microcontroller and the analog and digital components that typically surround it in an embedded system. A single PSoC device can integrate as many as 100 peripheral functions and a microcontroller, saving customers design time, board space, power consumption, and system costs.
The Cypress CY3215-DK professional-class development kit is included with the LSI Logic SDK. It includes a tiny footprint, high-speed in-circuit USB 2.0-based emulator with a large trace buffer, which integrates with PSoC Designer(TM) and the user's development board. The kit includes everything a designer needs to get started with PSoC, including an ICE-Cube In-Circuit Emulator; the ICE Flex-Pod for the CY8C29xxx PSoC family; and iMAGEcraft C-Compiler; CY8C29466-24PXI chip samples; and cables and adaptors. For more information on the CY3215-DK, go to http://www.cypress.com/CY3215-DK. For more information on the LSI SDK go to http://www.lsilogic.com/products/sas_expander_ics/index.html.
SAS technology enables SCSI interface solutions beyond Ultra320 to the next-generation Direct Attach Storage (DAS) enterprise server, storage systems, and high-performance workstation markets while retaining device-level backward compatibility. The SAS standard defines a device-level enterprise storage interface incorporating SCSI command sets, serial point-to-point interconnections, dual porting, increased addressability and the ability to scale to small form factors. Because the SAS physical layer is compatible with Serial ATA (SATA), users will have the choice of populating their systems with SAS or SATA hard disk drives, or a combination of both.

    About the PSoC Family

PSoC devices are configurable mixed signal arrays that integrate a fast 8-bit microcontroller with many peripheral functions typically found in an embedded design. PSoC devices provide the advantages of an ASIC without the ASIC NRE or turn-around time. A single PSoC can integrate as many as 100 peripheral functions with a microcontroller, saving design time, board space, power consumption and from 5 cents to as much as $10 in system costs. Easy-to-use development tools enable designers to implement analog functions such as amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, filters and comparators and digital functions such as timers, counters, PWMs, SPI and UARTs. The family's analog features include rail-to-rail inputs, programmable gain amplifiers and up to 14-bit ADCs with exceptionally low noise, input leakage and voltage offset. The devices include up to 32KB of Flash memory, 2KB of SRAM, an 8x8 multiplier with 32-bit accumulator, power and sleep monitoring circuits, and hardware I2C communications.
