Consortium Of Veolia, Hitachi, ArabCo Wins EPC Contract For 24 Billion Yen

(RTTNews) - Veolia Environnement (VE) Thursday said the consortium it formed with Hitachi Ltd. (HTHIF.PK, HTHIY.PK) and ArabCo, has bagged a contract, from Iraqi Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works, for EPC - engineering, procurement and construction - of pretreatment facilities at a water desalination plant in Basrah, Iraq.

The contract valued at 24 billion yen will begin in October and is scheduled to end by April 2017. Out of the 24 billion yen, 10 billion yen is for Hitachi and Veolia, the companies said.

The pretreatment contract will be a follow-up to the comprehensive order received in January for EPC and maintenance of the desalination plant.

Hitachi and Veolia will design and test the facilities, and ArabCo will handle the engineering and construction, as well as on-site installation work.

The consortium will also install surrounding facilities for handling river water intake and transportation.

"The desalination plant will significantly improve the quality of drinking water provided to the city of Basrah." said Jean-Michel Herrewyn, Senior Executive Vice President, Global Enterprises, Veolia.
