Clorox Recalls 5.4 Mln Bottles Of Liquid Plumr For Threats To Children
(RTTNews) - Clorox Co. (CLX) is recalling 5.4 million bottles of Liquid Plumr Clog Removers as they were not child resistant as required, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.
The recall includes three types of Liquid Plumr clog removing products such as Liquid Plumr Pro-Strength Foaming Clog Fighter, Liquid Plumr Industrial Strength Urgent Clear, and Liquid Plumr Pro-Strength Urgent Clear clog removers.
These products contain sodium hydroxide and is required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act to be sealed with child-resistant packaging.
The commission stated that the recalled bottles' caps are easily removable by the children, posing high risk of chemical burns and irritation to the skin and eyes.
The recall follows eight reports of the child-resistant bottle caps not working as intended and 221 reports of the bottles leaking received by the company. There were no reported injuries.
The consumers were urged to keep the remaining bottles, if any, away from children, and contact Clorox's Liquid Plumr call center immediately for disposal and refund instructions.
These bottles were sold in 17 ounce bottles that are about 9 inches tall. The bottles have the Liquid Plumr logo and the name of the product on the front.
The products were sold at Dollar General, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Kroger, Lowe's, Rite-Aid, Target, Walgreens, and Walmart, among others. They were also available online at Amazon.com, Drugstore.com and Quidsi.com from January 2012 through May 2016 for between $3 and $5.
