Chipotle's Baby Step In Long Winding Way To Redemption - Boston Outlet Now Open
(RTTNews) - Chipotle Mexican Grill reopened its Boston restaurant, which was closed temporarily earlier this month, following a norovirus outbreak that sickened more than 130 people.
Boston Inspectional Services Department Commissioner William Christopher ate lunch at Chipotle in Cleveland Circle on Monday afternoon after the restaurant officially reopened over the weekend following an inspection.
The restaurant was shut down on December 7 after more than 120 Boston College students showed gastrointestinal symptoms consistent with the norovirus after dining there.
In a statement, Christopher said, "We are pleased to see that the Cleveland Circle Chipotle has taken the necessary steps to meet the health code standards put forth by the City of Boston to protect consumers."
By eating out in the branch, Christopher said he wanted to let people know of his confidence in the place.
The highly contagious virus is easily passed and can spread through contaminated food, improper hygiene, and contact with contaminated surfaces. It causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
