Chase Announces Grants to 100 Local Charities in Community Giving Program

Chase today announced the winners of the Fall 2011 Chase Community Giving program on Facebook. 100 charities will receive a share in over $3 million in grants from Chase. Winning charities will use the funding for a variety of meaningful causes such as revitalizing communities, supporting the performing arts, offering recreation and therapy to people with special needs, humanitarian relief, and providing a free summer camp to economically disadvantaged children.

Fans of Chase Community Giving selected United Sikhs in Service of America, a New York City-based charity, as the top recipient of the Chase grants, awarding the charity $250,000. United Sikhs is a United Nations-affiliated non-profit organization that provides humanitarian relief and human development to empower those in need, particularly in disadvantaged communities across the world.

Four runner-up charities were selected to receive $100,000 from Chase. These charities are:

  • Villalobos Rescue Center, Canyon Country, CA
  • The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, Tempe, AZ
  • The Forgotten Dog Foundation, Santa Monica, CA
  • Oregon Crusaders, Portland, OR

"We are thrilled to have helped foster a community of over three million fans committed to helping others and we appreciate their enthusiasm helping us select another 100 worthy causes to share in more than $3 million in grants from Chase,” Kimberly Davis, President of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, said. "We look forward to celebrating the spirit and compassion of all the participants in Chase Community Giving at the first American Giving Awards television program this December.”

The Fall 2011 program is the fourth installment of Chase Community Giving, which has provided a share of more than $18 million to 500 charities in 41 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico since 2009. To date, more than 3.3 million Facebook users have "Liked” the Chase Community Giving page.

Earlier this year, Chase announced a two-year, $25 million commitment to the Chase Community Giving program, which allows Facebook users to choose from hundreds of thousands of charities and vote for them to win grants from Chase. The funding from this program is in addition to the bank’s traditional philanthropic giving, which totals more than $150 million annually and reaches thousands of non-profit organizations.

Earlier this month, Chase announced that five former Chase Community Giving winners will participate in the first-ever American Giving Awards (AGAs). Hosted by 22-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas, the AGAs will be broadcast on NBC on Saturday, December 10, 2011, 8:00pm EST, from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles. Chase will give a total of $2 million to the five featured charitable organizations. The organization with the most votes will receive $1 million, the runner-up will be given $500,000, a third organization will receive $250,000 and two will be given $125,000.
