    DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 2005--Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE), an integrated global producer of value-added industrial chemicals, announced today that its Chief Information Officer, Karl Wachs, has been selected as the 2005 recipient of Chemical Week magazine's CIO Excellence Award. The award is presented annually to a chief information officer within the chemical industry based on innovation and creativity in the planning and deployment of enterprise systems, future IT goals, management philosophy, corporate culture and service to the industry and community.
    Among his major achievements, Wachs was responsible for the enterprise-wide implementation of a uniform SAP system at all Celanese manufacturing and administrative locations around the world. Wachs has 18 years in IT-related leadership positions and holds a Ph.D. in experimental physics from the University of Hamburg.
