California Cartage Goes Live With Navis(TM) Yard at New State-of-the-Art Distribution Center
Navis, a Zebra Technologies company (NASDAQ:ZBRA) and the world’s
first company to automate marine terminal operating systems (TOS),
announced today that California Cartage Company (Cal Cartage), a
privately-held company based in Long Beach, Calif., has gone live with
Navis Yard at two of its new distribution centers in Savannah, GA. The
implementation of Navis Yard has helped Cal Cartage streamline the flow
of goods for some of the world’s largest
retailers. This best of breed yard management solution has given Cal
Cartage greater control over, and visibility into, its yard operations.
Navis Yard Management has brought Cal Cartage new DC real-time inbound
and outbound visibility, enabling Cal Cartage actionable information to
help make immediate decisions that have improved resource utilization.
In turn, this has reduced yard congestion, shortened turn times, and
ultimately provided better customer service.
"Navis Yard has helped us increase throughput
and visibility while speeding inventory to major retailers’
distribution centers,” said Michael Ridgway,
Operations Analyst with Cal Cartage. "This
process helps our retail customers get their inventory when they need
it, whether it’s to support promotions or
quickly replace out-of-stock items.”
Cal Cartage decided on Navis Yard based on strong endorsements by Navis
customers, as well as Navis’ proven track
record helping companies gain enhanced efficiency, organization and
accuracy. "Our decision to go with Navis Yard
had a lot to do with the visibility and real-time information about what’s
going on in our yard. This kind of transparency is becoming an industry
standard,” said Ridgway. "Previously,
everything was done on paper, and it was a much slower and less reliable
process. You need to know what’s in the yard
at any given moment to satisfy your customer. This kind of accuracy,
speed and organization from Navis Yard has become expected and demanded.”
Navis’ industry-leading solutions have also
provided Cal Cartage greater reporting efficiency and real-time
inventory updates, enabling the company to know at any given time what
inventory it has, where it is, and where drivers are as well as chart
their performance. "All of our customers
enjoy the reporting we’re now able to provide,”
said Ridgway. "The accuracy in information
and reporting we’re able to share with our
customers is crucial to show our performance. It’s
what our customers expect and rely on to measure how well we are doing.
The Navis system has changed the way we serve our customers.” "Navis Yard has increased the efficiency of
Cal Cartage and the major retail clients they serve,”
said Michael Dempsey, Vice President of Market Development at Navis. "Our
software has exceeded service level goals at Cal Cartage by leveraging
real-time inbound and outbound visibility. That means no more priority
containers with unknown contents sitting in the yard. Our partnership
has streamlined the flow of goods from Cal Cartage to their retail
customers. And we have helped Cal Cartage lower its operational costs by
increasing the efficiency and transparency of their new distribution
centers.”
Cal Cartage joins Navis’ notable client list
that includes market-leading brands such as Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola Bottling
Company Consolidated, Albertsons, Perdue Farms, Inc., Jo-Ann Stores and
Dot Foods. Navis has added other new clients in the past year to its
already impressive DC installed based, which include AutoZone, Johnson &
Johnson, Pep Boys, Academy Sports and Supervalu.
