CA Software Compliance Manager to Help Customers Address Software License Compliance Demands at Lower Cost
CA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CA) today announced the planned release of CA
Software Compliance Manager, a newly developed module designed to
help organizations manage the risks associated with software license
compliance and reduce IT costs associated with ineffective software
license management. Businesses using manual, inconsistent processes for
software license management increase their level of risk by using
non-repeatable processes. CA Software Compliance Manager is designed to
help establish sustainable and continuous compliance processes that can
help address regulatory challenges.
"Organizations face many challenges today as
they manage software licenses to address compliance needs. For example,
inventory tools don’t discriminate between
freeware and licensable software, and there are too many variances in
how software is described in the inventory report, license agreement and
purchase records,” said Brian Bell, senior
vice president and general manager, CA Service Management. "Those
challenges have forced organizations to engage in practices such as
paying for more licenses than they need to avoid the risk of fines and
to avoid being found out-of-compliance. CA Software Compliance Manager
is designed to help businesses obtain the software license information
they need to help maintain software license compliance without
overspending.”
CA was recently rated a "Strong Positive”
in the Gartner report, "MarketScope
for the IT Asset Management Repository, 2008.”
* CA is a recognized leader in providing technology to help
organizations manage their IT assets. CA Software Compliance Manager is
a future addition to CA’s
IT Asset Management solution with planned features to address
customer challenges associated with software license compliance,
including:
Compliance Engine – Matches licenses
to discovered software assets to help determine compliance status and
optimize the use of licenses.
License Administration – Records
license information—including maintenance
and dependencies—required to address the
challenges associated with compliance, audits or proof of ownership.
License Event Manager – Provides
continuous views of software license compliance information via a
dashboard.
Inventory Integration – Integrates
discovered software data from CA and third party inventory tools.
Inventory Data Interpreter –
Cleanses, normalizes and classifies the software data obtained from
inventory tools, and identifies the software products that require
compliance management.
Knowledgebase – Provides a dynamic
base of software license compliance information and software knowledge
that is continually refreshed, replacing manual research of software
inventory data.
"The challenge with managing software assets
for our company comes at audit time. With multiple data sources for
software license information and various licensing models, the audit
process is time consuming and complex,” said
Juergen Joeckel, CEO, Merkantis GmbH. "We
anticipate that CA Software Compliance Manager will help us address the
audit challenge while helping reduce costs and facilitate good IT
governance. CA's innovation is evident with this internally developed
product. We are part of the beta testing program with CA and look
forward to the putting it through its paces.”
Customers seeking assistance in deploying CA Software Compliance Manager
can turn to CA Services or to
various CA partners ranging from global systems integrators to
specialized solution providers. CA Services offers implementation
services that use best practices and methodologies developed from
hundreds of successful deployments of CA service management technology.
That experience helps provide for rapid time-to-value.
"Whether a business has 40 seats or 40,000
seats of a software product, properly managing software assets can help
save money. Software asset management is a critical piece of the systems
we implement for customers,” said Jim
Bassich, president, Avery Island Technologies, a solution provider
headquartered in Louisiana. "CA has developed
this product from the ground up, designing it to integrate with various
CA products and those of other vendors. We anticipate that this
integration will ease automation of the software audit process and help
address overall software compliance.”
