Beck's Motor Lodge Completes Major Renovation And Is So Happy About It
SAN FRANCISCO, March 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- "Many drawbacks, except location." This is one of the first TripAdvisor reviews you would have read about Beck's Motor Lodge. The past drawbacks do not need to be listed, but they've been successfully addressed. Renovations complete October 29, 2013.
The 58-room Beck's Motor Lodge has completed a major renovation of its guest rooms, elevator and exterior space. Designed to appeal to a wide range of travelers ranging from nearby hospital visitors, to Castro partiers, to international tourists, each room offers a comfortable and stylish layout – call it mid-century modern, leaning towards modern. Thoughtfully designed, each room features a clean, cool look with plush bedding, work space with complimentary Wi-Fi and a luxurious bathroom, complete with rain showerhead that every guest is talking about. Over the past 4 years, each room was taken down to studs (and sometimes beyond) and rebuilt.
"Everyone knows that our location in the heart of the Castro and free parking can't be beat, but I wanted to offer a product that I could really be proud of," said Brittney Beck, owner and operator of Beck's Motor Lodge. "Our rooms are gorgeous. We've come out of our past and into a bright future. I'm happy to say, it's nothing my grandfather would have picked out!"
Brittney's grandfather, Will Beck, originally built the hotel in 1958, and style was not at the front of his mind. The Castro was a vastly different neighborhood than it is now. Though baring a family name, Brittney is the only one in the family involved in Beck's Motor Lodge.
"There were thoughts about changing our name to Hotel Becks or something more modern, but in the end, we are Beck's Motor Lodge. We have parking and that traditional "U" shape that screams motor lodge," said Beck. "We decided a new logo on our giant Market St. sign and a fresh exterior paint pallet would signal the deep change we experienced."
The new digs have attracted a new variety of inhabitants - honey bees! Rooftop hives are perched on the roof over looking San Francisco. So far, the bees have produced 100 lbs. of honey and have pollinated more plants than can be counted. Keeping the bees alive and well, keeps San Franciscans (and the visitors) alive and well.
