AutoNation June Retail New Vehicle Unit Sales Rise 1%

(RTTNews) - Automotive retailer AutoNation, Inc. (AN) said Wednesday that total retail new vehicle unit sales in June, as reported to the applicable automotive manufacturers, increased 1 percent from last year. On a same-store basis, reported retail new vehicle unit sales were flat with the prior-year period.

For the month of June, retail sales of new vehicles totaled 25,450 units, while same-store retail new vehicle sales were 25,141 units.

Retail new vehicle unit sales for the domestic segment declined 7 percent from the prior-year period to 7,589, while retail new vehicle unit sales for the import segment decreased 2 percent to 12,168 units. Meanwhile, Premium Luxury segment recorded sales growth of 25 percent to 5,693 units.

The company noted that the industry reporting for June 2014 includes three fewer calendar days compared to the same month last year, including one less weekend.

AutoNation said it has prepared the reports based on standards established by the applicable automotive manufacturers, which differ from GAAP revenue recognition and other requirements.

For the second quarter of 2014, AutoNation's reported retail new vehicle unit sales increased 10 percent from the year-ago period to 81,394 units. On a same-store basis, reported retail new vehicle unit sales for the quarter grew 7 percent to 79,567 units.

For the domestic segment, retail new vehicle unit sales for the quarter rose 3 percent from the prior-year quarter to 24,738 units, while import segment sales increased 11 percent to 40,438 units. Premium Luxury segment sales for the quarter grew 20 percent to 16,218 units.

AutoNation expects to report July 2014 retail new vehicle unit sales on Monday, August 4.

AN closed Tuesday's trading at $59.78, up $0.10 on a volume of 806.200 shares.
