Automotive Engine Expert Dr. Helmut Endres Joins International Engine Group From Volkswagen

New Vice President of Engineering to Help Lead Key Unit Toward International Truck and Engine Corporation's Bold Growth Goals

International Truck and Engine Corporation today announced theappointment of Dr. Helmut Endres, an acknowledged expert in automotiveengine development and strategy, as vice president of engineering ofits Engine Group.

Dr. Endres joins International from Volkswagen AG in Germany,where he was most recently executive director of powertraindevelopment for the Volkswagen brand. Dr. Endres replaces MarkStasell, who returns to International's Truck Group in businessdevelopment.

Dr. Endres will be responsible for engine engineering and productdevelopment for International's line of MaxxForce(TM) diesel enginesand engines sold to International customers.

"Helmut is one of the world's leading authorities on dieselengines and has a disciplined approach to design, validation, costcontrols and product quality," said Jack Allen, president, EngineGroup, International Truck and Engine Corporation. In his 25-year career, Dr. Endres has acquired vast technicalexpertise in both diesel and gasoline engines. He has been with VW inGermany for the past decade, where he most recently led a global teamof 2,000 engineers. Among his accomplishments are the development ofthe high-performance V-10 TDI diesel engine in VW's Touareg SUV andPhaeton luxury sedan, and the introduction of turbo-charged,direct-injection gasoline engines with low-fuel consumption as well ashigh power and torque.

Previously, Dr. Endres was powertrain development director forAudi (part of Volkswagen Group) for four years. Prior to that, heserved as director of gasoline engines for Volkswagen brands for threeyears. He also spent 13 years with FEV Engine Technology, a globalengine development consultancy. He holds a degree in engineering fromRWTH Aachen in Germany, as well as a doctorate of engineering and iswell known within the global engineering community.

International today is the world's No. 1 diesel engine makeracross the 160 to 350 horsepower range. In North America,International has nearly 50 percent share of the diesel pickup enginemarket, and 40 percent of the market for medium-duty commercial trucksand buses. In South America, International has more than 50 percentmarket share in the mid-sized pickup/SUV segment and accounts fornearly 40 percent of all diesel engines produced.

Beginning next year, International will offer an expanded line ofengines under the MaxxForce(TM) International Diesel Power brand.MaxxForce will become the signature brand of International's globalon-highway commercial truck engines. For more information, visitwww.maxxforce.com.
