Ascom To Provide Integrated Nurse Call and Personal Alarm Solution for BHR Project
Ascom, one of the world’s leading providers of mission-critical communication solutions for Healthcare and other industries, has been selected to provide a customized wireless and hard-wired communications system for patients and staff at the BHR Project.
"Being selected to create and install a solution for such a challenging environment is a real testimony to our competence and credibility,” says Paul Lawrence, Managing Director, Ascom UK. "The physical setting alone is a challenge, comprising multiple buildings across a large site. Then there is the technical challenge. To help ensure patient and staff safety, we combined our unique nurse call with a hard-wired personal alarm system. In addition room-level positioning accuracy, thanks to the RTLS [Real-Time Location Service], is embedded in the solution’s 750 Wireless Ascom i62 ‘Protector’ handsets to provide a further level of staff safety.”
The solution has been developed in close cooperation with Kier Construction for the new hospital.
"We’ve worked closely with Kier Major Projects and West London Mental Health NHS Trust, the public body responsible for the project,” adds Lawrence. "For example as we jointly examined the long-term needs of the BHR Project, it became clear the facility required a much more advanced solution than what would be traditionally implemented based on paging.”
The solution for BHR includes 750 Wireless Ascom i62 ‘Protector’ handsets, a unique nurse call and personal alarm system which operates throughout the new hospital buildings. All active alerts are integrated into a central security management system from Cortech. The overall Ascom solution is supported and integrated by 21 Ascom ‘Unite Connectivity Manager’ servers.
"Each solution and system we install is mission critical,” says Lawrence in conclusion. "But I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that this project is especially so. It’s critical to staff and patient safety. And it’s critical to the peace of mind and security of the surrounding population. We at Ascom are proud to be part of this Healthcare project.”
