Applied BioMath, LLC Announces Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) Industry and Academia Symposium Series Kickoff
LINCOLN, Mass., Aug. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied BioMath (www.appliedbiomath.com), the industry-leader in applying mechanistic modeling to drug research and development, today announced the kickoff of their 2017-2018 QSP Industry and Academia Symposium series. The first symposium of the series will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Innovation Center located in Cambridge, MA.
In its third year, the series continues to develop an active community of industry and academic participants interested in QSP and create a forum for sharing successes and challenges. Each symposium is typically comprised of two presentations from pharma and biotech researchers, along with networking opportunities. This QSP Industry and Academia Symposium will feature presentations from Madhu Natarajan, PhD, Head of Ophthalmology and Complement Therapeutic Areas Research at Shire Pharmaceuticals and Jishnu Das, PhD, Postdoctoral Associate at MIT.
Dr. Natarajan will present a talk titled "Why You Must 'Model for Modeling's Sake' and Other Career Advice for the Modeling Scientist" in which he will cover modeling vignettes from various projects to illustrate how his background in engineering theory, self-professed avoidance of biological pedagogy, and development of "minimal-complexity" models of biological systems have led him to become a useful manager of wet-bench biologists and drug hunters.
Dr. Das will present a talk titled "Studying the Immune System Using Computational Systems Biology Approaches" in which he will present examples of how computational systems biology approaches can be used to elucidate molecular mechanisms of both vaccine-mediated and natural immunity. Dr. Das' talk will encompass the challenges associated with the modeling methods, and how he attempted to overcome them. He will also discuss approaches that he used to translate core quantitative results into insights of potential biological significance.
