Alejandro Sanchez Named Publisher of Al Dia
DALLAS, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Al Dia, the leading Spanish-language daily in North Texas and sister publication of The Dallas Morning News, has named Alejandro "Alex" Sanchez as its new publisher, effective February 5. Sanchez will oversee all business-related functions and the newsroom of the publication. Sanchez joined Al Dia in August 2007 as president and general manager.
"Alex has a long track record of transforming businesses and spearheading change. Over the past five months, he has reinvigorated our sales efforts and brought talented recruits to Al Dia," said Cyndy Carr, senior vice president, niche products with The Dallas Morning News. "Alex brings a fresh vision and renewed sense of urgency, and I am confident that he can build on that momentum going forward."
Sanchez, a native of Mexico City, brings more than 18 years of experience in the media industry. Prior to joining Al Dia, he served as vice president and general manager of LBI Media, where he ran seven Hispanic media properties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Previously, he held general management positions with Radio Unica in New York and Houston, and with Entravision Communications in Monterey, California, and he created Spanish-language TV and radio networks throughout the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico for Cadena de Plata, the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. He began his career in media at KWEX TV-41 in San Antonio, Texas. He then worked at Telemundo, where in just three and a half years he worked his way from an account executive in Dallas to a sales manager in Miami, then on to a regional sales manager in Los Angeles, the country's top Hispanic market.
"I am excited and honored to take on the leadership of Al Dia," said Sanchez. "The Dallas-Fort Worth Hispanic market is the six largest in the country, and as the only local Spanish-language daily, we have a tremendous responsibility to the community. I am committed to our readers and to our advertisers."
Al Dia, the only local Spanish-language newspaper in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, is published Monday through Saturday and has received numerous awards for excellence in journalism, along with its Web site, aldiatx.com. Al Dia is published by The Dallas Morning News, the flagship subsidiary of A. H. Belo Corp., , a news and information company that owns and operates four daily newspapers and 12 associated Web sites. A. H. Belo publishes special issues that target young adults and the Hispanic market, with Quick and Al Dia in Dallas-Fort Worth, and La Prensa in Riverside.
