Alberta CEOs Write Prime Minister on Health and Economic Crisis

ALBERTA, March 19, 2020 /CNW/ - Today, the chief executives of more than 60 companies headquartered in Western Canada put their names to a letter to the Prime Minster, applauding the significant actions taken to date in addressing the health and economic crisis, pledging business support, and encouraging the government to go even further.

The letter asks all politicians at all levels of government to work together toward one goal: no Canadian, household, business or organization is left worse off than where they were when this crisis began.

The letter encourages bold action in three categories, with specific proposals for each:

  • Protecting People
  • Protecting Business
  • Protecting Canada's Economy

"This is an extraordinary time for leadership and bold action. Chief executives across every sector of the Alberta economy felt it was important to offer support to the government in taking the needed actions, outline the scope of ambition necessary in addressing this crisis, and provide some concrete solutions," says Adam Legge, President of the Business Council of Alberta. "The reality is, if we don't act swiftly, and at this scale, this short-term quarantine will create economic and social problems that will be with us for decades."

Writing through the Business Council of Alberta, the companies collectively represent over 100,000 working Canadians, as well as the majority of Alberta's private sector investment, job creation, exports and research and development.
