Albert G. Grigonis Appointed General Counsel of Fuel Tech

Fuel Tech, Inc. (NASDAQ: FTEK) today announced that Albert G. Grigonis, formerly Assistant General Counsel of Fuel Tech, has been elected Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Fuel Tech, effective immediately, replacing Charles W. Grinnell, who is retiring after 21 years of service to the Company. Mr. Grinnell will remain an employee of Fuel Tech during a transitional period ending January 31, 2009 as Vice President, Legal Affairs. Mr. Grinnell will continue thereafter to serve on the Board of Directors.

Mr. Grigonis, 58, joined Fuel Tech in 2003 following four years as a Legal Director for the 3Com Corporation, a high technology computer electronics firm, and over 16 years in a variety of legal roles as an attorney for the Motorola Corporation. Mr. Grigonis received his law degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law.

John F. Norris Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "For over 20 years, we have been blessed to have a General Counsel with the legal skills and practical experience of Charlie Grinnell. Charlie has been a mainstay of Fuel Tech, helping to guide the Company during a period of tremendous growth and expansion. Although we will sorely miss his daily counsel on a wide variety of business and legal issues, Charlie will remain a Director of Fuel Tech and, as appropriate, will be available to advise on key issues affecting the Company.”

Mr. Norris concluded, "While it is never a good time to have a seasoned General Counsel retire, we are most fortunate to have such a capable individual as Al Grigonis step into this key position. In his five years at Fuel Tech, Al has impressed his colleagues with his wide ranging legal skills and knowledge across a broad array of legal subject matter areas affecting the Company’s operation and growth, and has been a key participant in formulating all major agreements, including those relating to acquisitions and new international initiatives. I can think of no one else who would be better qualified for this critical role.”
