ADDING MULTIMEDIA Boston Globe Names Sam Martin Chief Advertising Officer

Samuel P. Martin was named Chief Advertising Officer(CAO) of Boston Globe Media in an announcement made today by MaryJacobus, president of the Boston Globe.

Mr. Martin will oversee the integrated advertising sales andmarketing efforts for all the Globe's media properties which areoffered to advertisers in combination and separately, offeringmass-market reach and targeting flexibility. Those properties includethe Boston Globe newspaper, Boston.com, Worcester Telegram andGazette, and GlobeDirect, a direct marketing company.

"I am very excited to have Sam join us in this critical sales andmarketing position," Ms. Jacobus said. "He has a tremendous record ofbuilding and leading advertising teams across multiple mediaplatforms. He also brings a well-developed strategic view of thebusiness, and a solid appreciation of establishing strong customerrelationships."

Mr. Martin is currently senior vice president of sales for theNorth Jersey Media Group (NJMG), where he is responsible for theadvertising departments of The Record and The Herald News, as well asthe classified telecenter for the dailies and 43 weekly newspapers.His responsibilities also include the media group's Internet divisionand several specialty publications.

While at the NJMG, Mr. Martin successfully implemented a series ofinnovative advertiser programs ranging from effective packaging to newservices. He also introduced new sales metrics and new products suchas the most recently launched title, EXIT, a weekly alternativepublication geared for young adults.

Before his position at NJMG, Mr. Martin held a variety ofadvertising executive positions at newspapers in several metromarkets. He was the senior vice president of marketing at theCincinnati Enquirer for several years, where he was responsible forthe marketing and advertising departments of the Enquirer and TheCincinnati Post, as well as the sales efforts of Cincinnati.com. Hewas the advertising director at the News Journal in Wilmington, DE,and started his career at the Dayton Daily News.

Mr. Martin, 46, graduated with honors from Central StateUniversity, OH, with a Bachelors degree in communications in 1981. Heis married and has two children.
