Accounting Principals Launches 2018 Salary Guide

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Accounting Principals, a leader in the staffing and recruitment of accounting and finance professionals, today released its 2018 Salary Guide, containing comprehensive national, regional and local salary data, as well as up-to-date job descriptions for the most sought-after accounting and finance positions to help employers navigate today's job market trends.

According to the 2018 Salary Guide, there is increased demand and competition for top accounting and finance talent in specialized high-level knowledge careers like financial analysts and tax preparation specialists. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates that the unemployment rate for accounting and finance professionals is far lower than the national average, reaching 2.5 percent in June 2017 compared to 4.4 percent for total U.S. unemployment.

A talent shortage continues in accounting and finance, fueled by the rebounding economy, rising complexity in U.S. tax law and regulatory requirements and a bubble of Baby Boomers quickly leaving the workforce. The Accounting Principals 2018 Salary Guide can help employers understand the evolving landscape of the industry and job market trends, so companies can hire faster, and smarter.

"For accounting and finance professionals, a competitive salary remains the most important factor when considering a job offer," said David Alexander, president, Accounting Principals. "And given the record low unemployment rates in the space, it's critical for employers to offer the right salaries to ensure that they not only hire, but retain, the best talent."

In an Accounting Principals Google Consumer Survey of 337 professionals employed in accounting, banking and finance, most respondents (35 percent) cited salary as the most important factor they consider in a job offer, followed by opportunities for growth (19 percent) and company culture (14 percent).

The figures in the 2018 Salary Guide are based on national averages compiled through Accounting Principals' partnership with CareerBliss, a career community dedicated to helping people find happiness in the workplace and in life. To further validate the data, each office in the Accounting Principals nationwide branch network reviewed their local market data and revised some figures to ensure local accuracy. This comprehensive approach results in more regionally accurate data than the public data that is found in other salary guides.

In addition to the latest salary figures, the 2018 Salary Guide provides insight into:

  • The top-paying industries for accountants and auditors
  • The most in-demand accounting skills and core competencies desired
  • The fastest-growing financial services roles
  • The most sought-after soft skills in banking and finance
