AAA: Roads To Be Super Busy For July 4
(RTTNews) - For the Independence Day week-end, starting June 30, travel volume will be a record this year, predicts the American Automobile Association or AAA. Friday and Monday afternoons are expected to be the peak hours.
Cruising seems to be a favorite travel mode this year with 35 percent increase from last year. Road travel will be more affordable with reduced gasoline price touching the lowest point in last one decade. Road travelers, driving to their favorite destinations, will increase by 1.2 percent to 36 million.
The Leisure Travel Index shows that the average round-trip ticket will cost $207, down nine percent from the prior year. Rates for hotels also will go down from the previous year, with an average $185 for three Diamond rated hotels and $144 for two Diamond rated hotels, it says. Meanwhile, car rentals increased six percent from the prior year to average rate of $75.
From the month end to up to July 4, more than 3.43 million people will be flying, up 17.4 percent from year -go period.
According to AAA, roadside assistance will be sought by around 370 thousand travelers. Flat tires, and dead batteries are the expected reasons of breakdown.
