A&W(R) Turns National Ice Cream Day into a Summer-Long Celebration with 'Float Your Papa Burger(R) Combo for Free' Offer

From July 16 through Sept. 2, any A&W customer who orders a PapaBurger Combo (including a Papa Burger, fries and a drink) will receivea free drink upgrade: A&W will make the drink a float, free of charge.

"The A&W brand was founded in 1919, so we have a very long andvery cool relationship with ice cream," said Tim Matis, Director ofMarketing for A&W Restaurants. "We consider ourselves experts in bothsummertime fun and Sweets & Treats(TM), and we don't think a singleday is enough time to do justice to celebrating ice cream. So we'reextending the celebration through Sept. 2 with our 'Float Your PapaCombo for Free' offer."

The "float upgrade offer" applies to other soft drinks as well(although the root beer float is far and away the most popular floatflavor at A&W). So for those who prefer other float flavors over rootbeer floats, A&W will be happy to oblige.

"Visiting your hometown A&W to take advantage of the 'Float YourPapa Combo for Free' offer will be a great way to celebrate NationalIce Cream Day on Sunday," Matis added. "But for those who can't makeit on Sunday, A&W will be extending the celebration through thesummer. Every day is 'Ice Cream Day' as far as A&W is concerned."

Customers who grew up with A&W Restaurants remember the PapaBurger, the patriarch of the Burger Family that made its debut in the1960s but disappeared from the A&W menu at many locations years later.

A&W All American Food(R) reintroduced the Papa Burger chain-wideto rave reviews earlier this year and restaurants across the countryare celebrating its reintroduction with a series of promotionsthroughout the summer.

The Papa Burger -- the signature burger for A&W All American Food-- is a double cheeseburger made with 100 percent U.S. beef, toppedwith fresh lettuce, juicy tomato, onion, pickles and a special PapaSauce -- all on a toasted sesame seed bun.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated the third Sunday inJuly as National Ice Cream Day, and called for people to observe theday with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."
