The PM’s have a Quantamental approach combining rigorous fundamental analysis with proprietary quantitative screening. The quantitative element of the process identifies those stocks which show the highest potential to have the underlying characteristics which the Portfolio Managers desire. The PM’s are looking for quality stocks with strong cash generation, good market positioning, with a strong leadership team that are growing earnings and which can be acquired at reasonable valuations. The PM’s are very aware of the pitfalls of pure quant investing and therefore perform detailed fundamental analysis which includes financial modelling, meeting with management, an assessment of the competitive landscape and the current operating environment including any likely changes on the horizon. Only when this work has been completed will a stock have the potential to be included within the portfolio.
