Malaysian Inflation Eases Further To 1.5%

(RTTNews) - Malaysia's consumer price inflation eased further in November to the lowest level in more than two-and-a-half years amid a slowdown in food costs, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Friday.

The consumer price index, or CPI, climbed 1.5 percent year-on-year in November, slower than October's 1.8 percent increase. Further, this was the weakest inflation rate since February 2021.

Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages grew at a slower pace of 2.6 percent in November versus a 3.6 percent gain a month ago.

Charges for restaurants and hotels were 4.3 percent more expensive compared to last year, and health costs rose 2.3 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices remained flat in November after rising slightly by 0.1 percent in October.

Data also showed that core inflation stood at 2.0 percent in November, down from 2.4 percent in the prior month.
