Walgreens April Comps Up 7.6% - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Drugstores operator Walgreen Co. (WAG) Monday said comparable sales for the month of April rose by 7.6 percent. Sales increased by 8.8 percent to $6.49 billion from $5.96 billion in the period last year.

Total front-end sales increased by 8.8 percent and comparable front-end sales rose 8.2 percent during the month.

For the combined March-April period which includes the impact of Easter holiday season, comparable store front-end sales grew by 2.1 percent, while customer traffic in comparable stores decreased by 0.9 percent.

Pharmacy sales for the month increased 9.2 percent and comparable pharmacy store sales rose 7.3 percent.

The company opened 8 stores in April, including two stores that were relocated, acquired six and closed two. As of April 30, Walgreen operated 8,699 locations, including 8,231 drugstores.
