TSX Closes Lower As Energy Rally Dies -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks reversed course Wednesday, finishing in negative territory after Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen indicated a possible rate hike in December.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index dropped 48.49 points, or 0.35 percent, to 13,661.82.
Crude oil prices tumbled, weighing on energy stocks.
Dec. oil lost $1.58, or 3.3%, to settle at $46.32/bbl on Nymex.
Gold stocks dropped 1.9 percent, following gold prices lower.
ATS Automation Tooling Systems (ATA.TO) reported seconded quarter EPS of C$0.19, in line with estimates. Shares rose 3 percent.
Iamgold Corp. (IMG.TO) booked a profit of $46.9 million in the third quarter versus $200,000 in the same period last year. Shares plunged 7 percent.
Silver Wheaton Minerals (SLW.TO) has bought future silver output from Glencore Plc's Antamina copper mine in Peru for $900 million in cash. Shares were fractionally higher.
