Metris Retires $900 Million of ABS Debt

MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2005--Metris Companies Inc. (NYSE:MXT) announced today that Metris Receivables, Inc. ("MRI"), its wholly owned subsidiary, has defeased the $900 million Series 2002-3 asset-backed securitization from the Metris Master Trust. Series 2002-3 is scheduled to mature in May 2005. The defeasance was accomplished by drawing $900 million from MRI's two-year conduit facility.
