CNA President to give remarks at Bloomerg Sustainable Business Summit in Toronto

OTTAWA, Sept. 25, 2017 /CNW/ - Bloomberg will host a Sustainable Business Summit in Toronto this week to discuss Canada's transformation to renewable energy. The one day conference will look at the challenges that our energy sector is facing, how these challenges are being addressed and how industry can work with government to achieve mutually beneficial objectives.

Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) President Dt. John Barrett, is one of the energy leaders that has been invited to speak at the event. Dr. Barrett will discuss Canada's current infrastructure needs and what investments will be required to meet these needs while ensuring sustainable infrastructure development into the future.

"I am honoured to be part of the Bloomberg Summit and to discuss the importance of investing in sustainable infrastructure today to ensure a prosperous and clean tomorrow," said CNA President Dr. John Barrett.

"Nuclear energy is a key part of both Ontario and New Brunswick's long-term, sustainable, clean energy future," he added. "In Ontario, three nuclear generating stations provide power to over 60% of the province and in New Brunswick nuclear makes up one-third of the energy grid. Our contributions support intermittent renewable options and help to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of providing clean, affordable energy to everyone. It's time to start thinking about building on these energy infrastructure contributions with new reactors to meet the clean electrification needs of urban, rural, and remotely located Canadians and industrial operations."

In fact, thanks to nuclear science and technology, Canada's vision of a sustainable future is one step closer to being realized. Canada's nuclear industry meets nine of the United Nations 17 SDGs, providing significant contributions to the areas of climate, health and water security.

The Bloomberg Sustainable Business Summit in Toronto will take place on Wednesday September 27th, 2017 from 1pm-6pm
