CDW Named Among Best Places to Work by FORTUNE Magazine for Ninth Straight Year

In a reaffirmation of its strong coworker culture, CDW Corporation (NASDAQ:CDWC) has been named to FORTUNE Magazine’s "100 Best Companies to Work for in America” list for the ninth consecutive year. The leading provider of technology products and services to businesses, government and education is ranked No. 82 on the list. CDW is one of three Illinois companies to rank on FORTUNE’s list this year and is the only Illinois-based company to receive the honor for nine consecutive years. "We are honored to make FORTUNE’s list again this year,” said John Edwardson, chairman and chief executive officer, CDW. "Our continued presence on this list is strong evidence of our consistent commitment towards making CDW an attractive place to work. CDW’s growth has provided many new advancement opportunities for our coworkers. That contributes to our ability to provide an unmatched customer experience.” CDW provides benefits that help coworkers manage their work-life balance such as a subsidized childcare center, fitness center and dry cleaning pickup at corporate headquarters. Other benefits which help to attract and retain talented coworkers include professional development programs, adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement. In 2006 CDW received 18,497 employment applications and added more than 300 coworkers to its staff, a growth rate of roughly eight percent, up one point from the year before. This does not include CDW’s staff growth through the acquisition of Berbee Information Networks Corporation, which joined CDW in October 2006 with more than 800 coworkers. CDW has a robust community affairs program in place. Some examples of its activities in the community range from disaster relief efforts in response to the Gulf Coast hurricanes and Asian tsunami to mentoring youth in Lake County and Chicago, Illinois through programs with Big Brothers Big Sisters. In fact, FORTUNE cited CDW’s hurricane relief efforts in the "100 Best” issue, saying, "This IT product and service provider believes in lending a hand. Last summer CDW sent 80 coworkers to help in the Katrina cleanup, and last fall it sent another 300 back to spend several days helping rebuild.” Additionally, CDW donated $120,000 in refurbished computers last year through a partnership with Operation Homelink™, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization to ensure members of the military are better connected with their families while deployed. CDW also recently started a partnership with American Red Cross of Chicago through their "Ready When the Time Comes" program. The program trained over 100 CDW coworkers on local emergency response initiatives. "The 100 Best Companies to Work For" list is compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco. As part of the most extensive employee survey in corporate America, more than 105,000 employees from 446 companies responded to a 57-question survey. Two-thirds of a company’s ”100 Best” ranking is based on the survey, which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees from each company and asks about things such as attitudes toward management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The remaining third of the score comes from the evaluation of each company’s responses to the Institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about demographic makeup, pay, and benefits programs, and open-ended questions about the company’s people-management philosophy, internal communications, opportunities, compensation practices, diversity programs, etc. About 1,500 companies contacted the Great Place to Work Institute or were recruited to participate.
