CASA and Give Back Partner to Send Foster Youth to College
LOCKPORT, Ill., March 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonprofit organizations Court Appointed Special Advocates of Will County (CASA) and Give Something Back (Give Back) announced an official partnership at CASA's annual gala last week, where more than $100,000 was raised. The partnership combines CASA's advocacy with Give Back's college readiness and scholarship program to provide children impacted by abuse and neglect the opportunity to achieve a college degree. The union advances both organizations' commitment to foster youth in Illinois.
CASA advocates on behalf of abused and neglected children in juvenile court through trained adult volunteers. Since 2003, Give Back has provided college scholarships, support and mentoring to students who have faced adversity. The partnership means CASA children are now eligible for Give Back scholarships, increasing their education and career opportunities.
The announcement took place at CASA's annual 'Have a Heart for a Child' Gala February 17. Give Back founder and chairman, Robert O. Carr, was honored. The businessman and philanthropist donated an additional $50,000 to CASA program expansion as part of his dedication to "making college a reality for more foster children." This partnership was facilitated by CASA supervisor Melanie Buhle, a proud Give Back alum.
"We could not be more grateful to be working with Give Back to help 'complete the circle' for children in foster care," said CASA Executive Director Rita Facchina. "This life-changing opportunity, to be the first person in their family to receive a college diploma, is truly remarkable. It is our hope that these children will be able to break the cycle of abuse and neglect as they reach their full potential."
